lornab

Sun Mar 07, 2010 2:40 pm

well, from the threads on the forum, there seems to be a recruitment drive for PCSO's in Essex, i guess you'd have to move if it's your chosen career and nowhere local is recruiting. sorry I can't be any more help.

Hi fellow pcso's, I'm about to start my sixth week, I've passed all the exams apart from the last knowledge check so I feel really fed up. Does anyone know whether there is a website which may have the multiple choice exam questions that I can practice to so that I pass the final stage exams. blueyes

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:06 pm

It's been a pleasure, and could have gone on all day, happey to do it again at some point. I'll get more info on the Asp/Cuffs thing and start a thread next week. Have a good day, and thanks again
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:06 pm

sure, well you have come onto the AJAX CHAT session and answered every single question fired in your direction TC, thank you very much for doing so and thank you for being a great member of the site. See you around the forums I am sure, CHEERS!!

I'm going to have to sign off, the wife is hassling me to go to her mums, and I've sold my car yesterday, so we have to walk!
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:05 pm

I think it adds a more human approach to policing
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:04 pm

I'm as happy giving someone directions to the job centre, as I am chasing a crim
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:04 pm

hmmm that is a good reply, nice one
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:04 pm

Yes, I suppose you could say it is true, however you dress it up, we are policing on the cheap, but I think it adds vastly to the police force (notice I put force, not service) with completely different types of people, from different backgrounds and different past careers, not all just stereo-type coppers. People who actally have time for the public, not just want to nick them
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:02 pm

but isn't it simply true TC that PCSOs are a cheap version of PCs?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:02 pm

I use a CS holder to hold my Surefire, I often notice people lookng at it
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:02 pm

I think the public perception of us would improve if they could see cuffs hanging off our belts
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:02 pm

yeah they could be useful and actually add some authority to the officer as well
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:01 pm

Yes I know, and I think we should too, I'm sure we will in time
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:01 pm

well some PCSOs do, quite a few actually, WALES, BTP to name but 2 forces
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:00 pm

wrong turn of phrase, no, unfortunately not
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:00 pm

you said "although never had to actually cuff myself" eeerrrr you don't have handcuffs do you TC?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 12:00 pm

Well it was intended to be a warts and all, and that's what they didn't like about it.
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:59 am

that was absolutely hilarious that diary, real shame
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:59 am

I know my trainng sergeant used to come on here, although I've never worked out who he is, as he was the one that made me shut down my training diary, as it had been seen by him, and some people at Hendon, whooops!!!
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:58 am

correct at 01TW but we have both moved on 2 or 3 years ago
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:58 am

You used to work with him I believe?
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:58 am

you said "although never had to actually cuff myself" eeerrrr you don't have handcuffs do you TC?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:57 am

he is actually a good friend of mine, hehe very nice fella to boot too
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:57 am

Sgt87 too, he gives a lot of good info
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:56 am

Oooh, difficult one that. I think probably overthinker, bigbruv and Catweazle
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:56 am

ok here's an easy one TC, who is your favourite member on the site?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:55 am

who knows? I've been involved in several incidents where I've assisted PCs in cuffing people, although never had to actually cuff myself, but who knows what might happen
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:54 am

a PCSO needs to know about cuffing and using an ASP during day to day operation?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:54 am

I assumed this what a Met wide policy, I'll ask that too, and start a thread about it.
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:54 am

There isn't a thread, I'll find out more tomorrow when I go back to work (been off all week). The training is purely in case it's needed in day to day operations
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:54 am

there must be discussion AT the OST training about WHY PCSOs receive cuffing/ ASP training TC
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:53 am

Hasten to all, all three of us come on this forum, elcapitan is one, don't know the user name of the other, he doesn't come on here as often
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:53 am

is there a thread on this? I'm gobsmacked, why bother training PCSOs on that?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:53 am

It's been like that for some time, apart from the three of us that started on our team at the same time, everyone else has already done it
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:52 am

Yes, when we do our on borough OST, they teach you how to cuff and how to use an asp, and other stuff as well I believe. Just in case you have to do it at some point when with a PC. Or if in the middle of a "bundle", an asp falls to the floor. There's always the chance. I think this should be part of the mandatory training.
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:52 am

so are you looking forward to your cuffing and ASP training TC? I can't see you getting it really
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:51 am

Some of my colleagues often say things like "It's pretty good money for what we do". I suppose you could say Fireman, nurses etc should get more. I wouldn't be a prison oficer for all the tea in China
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:50 am

PCSOs getting cuffing and Asp training? I can't see it TC? is this for real?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:50 am

well it's WAY OVER what new prison officers start on I can tell you that for definate!
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:49 am

Yes, I really think so. When you're 20, and all of a sudden you're earning £25K for what some see as just "walking around" it's quite an attractive draw. For myself with a wife, child and mortgage, it's not so good. I took a pay cut to do the job. But, for the first time in my life, I love going to work
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:48 am

especially the money? eh?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:48 am

As for training, I do think we should be taught more self defence, cuffing etc. I know when we do our Borough OST, they give us cuffing and Asp training, but I haven't had that yet. I would have liked to learn more about law too, which I have picked up along the way, a lot of it, thanks to this Forum I have to say
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:47 am

Exactly, I do think some are on a power trip, and especially the money. Some on my training, in fact most of them, had worked in shops previously, on about 12-14 grand, something like that, all of a sudden they are given a few powers, a uniform and £25K. There are at least 3 members of my STT team that are 19, and although they do act professionally on the street, I always look at them and think, no you shouldn't really be doing this
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:45 am

are you satisfied with the training that you have received as a PCSO?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:45 am

yeah and that is something the people under that age simply CANNOT ever appreciate until they get above that age
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:44 am

Yes definately, I think life experience plays a huge part. I often think that some of the PCSOs I come into contact with are far too young, and coppers for that matter. I really think the age should be 21
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:44 am

ah I do undertsand the problem hehe
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:43 am

I don't understand the problem, anyway TC you must find it a huge advantage being an older PCSO don't you?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:42 am

Yeah, great idea, I'll do that. Only thing is now, my team is the only PCSO team in our huge nick
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:41 am

please raise it in viewforum.php?f=5 and as for more members well yeah, I tell you what photocopying a page from the site and placing it in other PCSOs trays could be good what do you say?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:39 am

Oh can it, I'll have to do that then. Apart from that, its pretty much spot on
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:38 am

hehe the hour ahead thing can be changed BY YOU
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:38 am

I do like coming to the site, but I do get annoyed, and really have to bite my tongue from time to time. I can't really think of how it could be improved, although it would be nice to get some more members. The only thing that I think should be changed is the time, it's always an hour ahead!
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:36 am

sure is, so you obviously enjoy coming to the site quite a lot by the look of your profile!! how could the site be improved in your opinion?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:36 am

certainly do. I always say that, as I call them "uniformed social workers" are also part of the role, and that I am never critiising them for what they do, there is a part for that type of PCSO too
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:35 am

you are criticised because you get involved - well sod the criticism - all PCSOs ARE different, from what I see you certainly give value for money that's for sure
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:34 am

Of course not, everything I have commented on, Specials or otherwise, has been from my personal experience. I have realised that there are many different types, but I am critisised because I get involved, and do things that others deem "not in their remit"
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:33 am

your posts show more than anything that every PCSO out there is different, one is a stand back and report in PCSO - another is a lay hands on the bloke "I'm using my citizen's power of arrest" kind of guy and yet another PCSO is somewhere in the middle of these
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:33 am

well ok - I think we have all been there and seen it TC but that's not the whole story
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:32 am

I haven't had particularly good experience of them. I've had to get involved when a hole group have been standing around, not knowing what to do, including a sergeant, and had to tell them what to do, the list of experiences, all bad goes on and on. The way I look at it, whatever you do for a living, if you only do it for 16 hours a month, you're not going to be very good at it
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:31 am

Your crusade against specials on this site, has actually been a pleasure to view, not least for the fact that it has brought many many members to the immediate DEFENCE of specials!! it really has been amazing
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:31 am

yes I suppose so, I seem to make quite inocuous (spelt wrong) statements, and I am then jumped on. I don't hide my contempt for Specials, I would be lying if I said I liked them, or their role. Obviously it's nothing personal against them, just the role
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:30 am

well you inspire and hack other members off, in pretty much equal measure
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:29 am

I never set out to be, I just am honest, and I don't think many users think it's a pleasure. I guess you've seen the latest round of abuse, this time from PCSO Tristian
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:28 am

TC you have to be the most controversial PCSO that we have had the pleasure of seeing in years
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:28 am

Favourite colour is blue, although I support Arsenal for my sins. I think my thoughts on powers are well documented on here, but I think we should have more powers
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:27 am

hehe might as well get this out of the way early, what is your favourite colour and do you have any thoughts on PCSO POWERS?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:27 am

yellow
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:27 am

blimey that is crucial, red sauce or brown?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:26 am

bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, coffee and toast - the works
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:26 am

what did you have?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:25 am

Morning Falkor, certainly have!
typecastboy

Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:16 am

good morning TC  had your breakfast yet?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:23 am

Thank you
brianb

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:23 am

okay I would like to thank you for coming onto the AJAX CHAT section Brian, although you do not agree with the PCSO role - you have been a long time member of this site, banned or not, you do have posts that are valid contributions
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:22 am

Same answer - I am not a PCSO
brianb

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:21 am

it's actually not the same question Brian
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:20 am

Why do you keep asking the same question?
brianb

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:20 am

but you stated that you have no thoughts on PCSO POWERS, why did you say that?
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:19 am

There is a difference between having thoughts on PCSO powers and being ANTI PCSO. How is this embarassing? I have never agreed with he role and again that is no secret.
brianb

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:18 am

oh dear Brian - this is pretty embarrassing, you are ANTI PCSO and that has been obvious all the times you were banned
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:17 am

You have lost me now
brianb

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:17 am

because you DO have thoughts on PCSO POWERS, we all know you do
falkor

Sun Feb 21, 2010 9:16 am

Why are you asking the same question?

  •   Are you a member of a union?
  • RECOMMENDATION

all PCSOs across the UK should strongly consider joining a union. MET PCSOs largely join the PCS union.

All other PCSOs should really join UNISON

If you are already in a union think about encouraging others to consider this issue

    read the thread on this
    join the PCS union
The Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) is the fifth largest trade union in the UK, with over 300,000 members.

Our members are organised throughout the civil service and government agencies, making us the UK's largest civil service trade union.

Year on year, UNISON wins pay rises for its members. Average earnings are around eight per cent higher in unionised workplaces.

UNISON provides courses to help you learn new skills, improve existing ones and develop your career. Since 1994 UNISON has won agreements with employers to pay for courses and provide time off for employees to attend them.
