Hi welcome on board, and congratulations on your new role
Where will you be based?
The only advice I can give you for the first day is relax and be yourself. Dress smarlty as first impressions count and above all enjoy yourself. Just think all the others will be feeling as nervous as you......... you'll be fine. By lunch time you'll be mates with the whole group

What a smashing post, welcome grebbo. It isn't too often that we see a post like yours in here - plenty having a winge but a compliment is sadly a rare thing.
On your first day all I can say apart from what was mentioned is pay attention and ask if you are not sure about something. It is better to ask than try to muddle through. Don't feel daft because you think you may of missed a point. It is a lot to take in so at some point it will become a bit hazey.
And as Ali said - Enjoy it. Good Luck and keep us posted when you can. _________________ Tally Ho! Chaps, Bandits 12o/c High.

Wicked ........ I'm in Colchester and cover the Town Centre
I think you'll be probably stationed with Jed on the North CPT, they're extremely short of PCSOs up there at the moment. A couple have joined the Regs, one's gone to BTP, one back to Australia and sadly Brian passed away last week from a short illness
Jed's all on his lonsome, and he's been promised there's going to be more PCSOs in the next six weeks. So I reckon that will be you sweety, and I think you'll be training with my mate Sonya..... she's a scream!
Only a couple of weeks til you start training now... bet you're excited? _________________

| i am indeed its gonna be a big culture shock for me - because a use to run my own business but as soon i started reading about PCSO's i decided that that was the direction i waited to go in - the biggest problem i have faced so far has been to keep myself focused over the last 2 months - i couldnt believe how long it took from inquirying to interview then wait - then the police check........now its only just over a week away !! have you always worked with Essex police? & what sort of shift patterns can i expect? |

2 months is not that bad...... I applied in the May 2003 and didn't start until October 2003 (six months later!!!!!). You've made a good choice with this job, takes a little while to find your feet, then you're gonna love it
We work varied shifts, but maily 10-6pm, 2-10pm and the occassional 4-midnight, so yours will be simililar to this. We often work seven on three off, seven on two off, six on three off. It's on an eight week rota.
My favourite shift is the 4-midnight on the town, very busy and lots happening........... LOVE IT!
Hope this helps?

Where I work they're really good if you need to swap shifts, we swap between us quite a bit. The Skippers are fine with this, as it's a case of I'LL SCRATCH YOUR BACK, IF YOU SCRATCH MINE!
We're often changing our shifts at short notice to cover for events and operations, so they're pretty good with us too.
You should be fine with your Badminton, I don't think you'll be expected to give up your hobbies and interests for ever _________________
