I'm confused!! Having just failed the bleep test at Hendon, I've purchased a copy of it on CD. I've just listened to it and it appears that there are 11 segments to each level. Is this right? It seems that the beep goes off very quickly.
Can anyone tell me how long in total the run is? Even the instructor at Hendon wasn't too sure. |

Level 5.4 is appx 3 minutes and 40 seconds, there should be 8 shuttles per level, well on my cd there is, mine is issued by Hertfordshire Constabulary. It is appx 44 shuttles in total.

Hi Bagpuss, the bleep test I did recently at Hendon was approx 3mins 30 secs and consisted of either 51 or 53 shuttles in total (according to the instructor).
I bought the bleep test on CD beforehand, and couldn't get to the right level, but managed it on the day! If you practise with the CD, I'm sure you'll manage it next time.
Good luck |

Hi Bagpuss
The bleep test I downloaded off the net consisted of 11 shuttles per level yet on the day at hendon it was only 7 shuttle runs per level - so yes I was confues too!
On the downloaded versioni i got to level 4.8 and managed the met day one with not to much trouble at all.
I worked it out as 5 x 7 = 35 then and the 4 extra shuttles = 39 shuttle runs for the met! yet on the day I think the instructor said it was 44!! All confusing I know.
I think that if you can get to level 4.8 or abouve on your version of the bleep test then you should pass the fitness next time.
I wish you all the best

| I've joined a gym and have got a proper copy of the bleep test (kindly donated by someone on this site), but wondered if anyone can assist. Am I right in thinking that level one is run at 8.5 km per hour and then it increases by 0.5 each level? I'm trying to programme in the treadmill at the gym you see!! |

| The Bleep Test For the Met is 5.4 a slow jog but the c.ds can go up to level 11 or 12 this is for TSG ( RIOT POLICE) as they have to carry equipment while on active duty |

Pardon my ignorance but when was the bleep introduced for CSO's? Is this only certain forces?
Thanks |

i think some forces have had to do fitness tests and others havent cos the force i work for have never fitness tested PCSO or CSO's which ever you profer
but it appears some have.
so it looks like a force thing depending on which one your in. _________________

I am a 37 year old woman with a 9 - 5 desk job, 3 kids and a husband and take no or virtually no exercise. I have swum half a mile 3 times in the last 2 months and taken up a latin american and ballroom dancing class but our third lesson is this week so I think I well and truly fall into the couch potato category.
I smoke 20 ish a day, enjoy a glass or 4 of white wine on a regular basis and have a particular weakness for pork scratchings. In an attempt to ease my nerves I set up a practice bleep test at my local gym on Saturday and to my surprise and delight I easily reached 5.4!!!
I am now not so scared about my bleep test and just wanted other couch potatoes to know that it wasnt that bad!!! |

I must say, when I did the bleep test I found it pretty easy to get to 5.4 and I got to level 8.1 before I had to give up.
At the time I hadn't done much fitness training and considered myself pretty unfit.
I was surprised to see some people struggle to get to 5.4 and have to drop out dead on 5.4. |

I have my fitness test on 7th october and i am dreading it. I usually go to the gym 5 times a week, but have had a chest infection for the last 3 weeks so have been coming straight home from work and "dying" on the couch. So basically i think i've blown it already.
In hampshire you have to do "4 shuttles at 5.4"
No idea what this means but it sounds painful LOL

I have a copy of the beep test, mine starts you running at 8.5kmph for one minute, then increases by 0.5 kmph every minute (so the number of shuttles on each level increases gradually, each shuttle being 15 meters)
My pass target is to get to at least 4 shuttles at level 5 (being able to run at 10.5kmph for just over 5 mins.) |
