| Do any PCSO's out there know of any discounts given appart from the ones through Unison like Alton towers, theme parks etc. I heard a rumour of Pizza Hut? Can anyone give any light on the rules and how these discounts affect us? |

Is the police platinum discount card still going? Issued with one once with a little booklet that had all the discounts you could get in various stores. _________________ "All of the above is in no way a criticism of the fine women and men who chose to be regular civilian police officers (as opposed to regular civilian police staff)." |

I know of Dominos pizza doing a police 50% discount locally, but not sure if this is a national agreement or not. _________________ As a matter of fact, YES- I DO OWN THE ROAD! |

Although I did have a police platinum discount card some years ago which was issued by the force, I have never tried to obtain a discount for anything using a warrant card or force ID.
I think it only compromises your inpartiality. _________________ "All of the above is in no way a criticism of the fine women and men who chose to be regular civilian police officers (as opposed to regular civilian police staff)." |

I don't think there should be discounts for anyone. _________________ "All of the above is in no way a criticism of the fine women and men who chose to be regular civilian police officers (as opposed to regular civilian police staff)." |

it is very tempting to use your ID card in pizza hut - dominos pizza - outback staekhouse and uncle tom cobleys liberace lasagne bar especially when others from your station are achieving a great discount
the decision is YOURS but I can tell you that the times I have done it you can count on ONE hand, I would advise great caution in this area |

all met police officers and staff are entitlled to use a web site that allows you to buy discount vouchers for high street stores, restaurants etc. it also gives disounts on hotels, airport parking and the like.
You can find out the internet web address by lokking on the intranet it's in todays news section. _________________ never regret the future. |

The metbenefits site offers a wide range of excellent services and discounts to staff, as well as other schemes like the MPAA and MPS Trading Service or the free travel concession.
However, can I just reiterate once again that if any member of staff operates outside of these specific schemes to try and get discount or free stuff, the penalties are severe.
If a PC or PCSO as an individual goes into Pizza Hut, Odeon, Nandos or whatever else in uniform or maybe uses their ID card in an attempt to get a discount, they ARE COMMITTING A CRIMINAL OFFENCE, as well as breaching the discipline code for standards and ethics. It is entirely irrelevant that the managers or owners of these places are happy to facilitate this.
It won't matter one bit if "everyone else" does it & gets away with it, when YOU are the unlucky one who actually gets done and sacked for gross misconduct. - no burger or film is worth the ultimate price is it?

| from the other side of the fence, i used to work for a large electrical retailer....from the early 80s until 2 years ago....at the start lots of police officers would ask for and sometimes get a discount....but we did not give discounts too nurses or army....which seemed unfair...as time went on the number of askers dwindled....a few in recent times, but to make it clear i was selling something to a DI and he asked me if police were asking for discounts, i replied " sometimes " and he said that police should not be asking for discount as its something that can comeback to haunt them in future court cases. it is almost bordering on a bribe and using your status to ket discounts and favours is not on......not unless you are a member of parliment of course. |

What is the deal when you insist on paying full price but they insist and are kinda offended making a scene in the place, only happy to make the discount for you? (a local pizza place)
Or if you are a regular in a cafe (Hi-viz in community places) on a rest break, and they are happy to give you a discount because they like to see the uniform in the place?I hope I cant be sacked for doing either! |

The deal is this. You should not accept any gift, discount etc unless you have prior approval from your bosses.
In exceptional circumstances you may have to accept a gift to avoid offence but you should report it to your bosses immediately so that they can decide the correct course of action.
You should deal with everybody fairly, this can be very hard to do if you regularly accept favours or discounts from somebody. _________________ never regret the future. |

Very good advice micky.
Basically stick with the agreed "offers" as agreed with the local federation office. |
